Volunteers Three Sisters Marathon

Danville, VA

It takes a lot of volunteers to make the Inaugural Three Sisters marathon a success.  We can't do it without you!

Below is a description of every position available at each of the volunteer shifts.

HEALTH & FITNESS EXPO POSITIONS:

  • Expo Setup
    • Shifts & Volunteers:
      • Thurs 9/4 @ 11:00a-1:00p – 8 volunteers
      • Fri 9/5 @ 11:00a-1:00p – 4 volunteers
    • Description: A behind-the-scenes look at the Expo before it is set up! Set up the participant T-shirt area and Participant Check In area.
  • Participant Check In
    • Shifts & Volunteers:
      • Thurs 9/4 @ 12:30p-4:00p and 3:30p-7:30p – 4 volunteers per shift
      • Fri 9/5 @ 12:30p-4:00p and 3:30p-7:30p – 6 volunteers per shift
    • Description: Issue registered participants their pre-assigned race numbers and information packets
  • T-shirts & Swag Bags
    • Shifts & Volunteers:
      • Thurs 9/4 @ 12:30p-4p and 3:30-7:30p – 6 volunteers per shift
      • Fri 09/05 @ 12:30p-4p and 3:30-7:30p – 8 volunteers per shift
    • Description: Distribute race participant T-shirts and swag bags
  • Greeters
    • Shifts & Volunteers:
      • Thurs 9/4 @ 12:30p-4p and 3:30-7:30p – 2 volunteers per shift
      • Fri 9/5 @ 12:30p-4p and 3:30-7:30p – 2 volunteers per shift
    • Description: Greet excited participants as they enter the Expo. Assist racers in knowing where to go when they enter the expo.
  • General Information
    • Shifts & Volunteers:
      • Thurs 9/4 @ 12:30p-4p and 3:30-7:30p – 2 volunteers per shift
      • Fri 9/05 @ 12:30p-4p & 3:30-7:30p – 2 volunteers per shift
    • Description: Answer general information questions participants ask at the Expo. Ideal for someone that is aware of Danville attractions or local information!

 

START LINE POSITIONS:

  • Start Corrals
    • Shift & Volunteers: Sat 9/6 @ 6:00a-7:30a – 6 volunteers
    • Description: Each corral is numbered and corresponds with the participant’s number (based on estimated finishing time). Direct participants to the correct corral and to see them off!  Volunteering in this role may involve holding ropes to separate the runner corrals.
  • Bag Drop
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6:00p-8:00p for 5k – 5 volunteers
      • Sat 9/5 @ 6:00a – 10 volunteers
    • Description: Each participant is issued a gear bag to be used for any personal items. Race Crew Volunteers are needed to assist participants with checking and retrieving their gear bags and placing them in the correct numerical order based on the assigned bib number.
  • VIP Tent
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6:00p-9:00p – 3 volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 6:00a-1:00p – 3 volunteers
    • Description: Set up and distribute water, snacks, fruit, and other refreshments to VIP participants.

 

FINISH LINE POSITIONS:

  • Refreshment Bracelet Vendor
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6:00p-9:00p – 2 volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 6:00a-2:00p – 2 volunteers
    • Description: check IDs and the transaction for participants wanting to purchase a bracelet for alcoholic beverages
  • Finish line Refreshments
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6:00p-9:00p – 6 volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 6:00a-2:00p – 10 volunteers
    • Description: Distribute water, hydration liquids, fruit, and other food items after participants cross the finish line.
  • Beer Pourers
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6:00p-9:00p – 6 volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 10:00a-4:00p – 6 volunteers
    • Description: Provide runners with a refreshing post-race beverage at the finish line. Includes pouring beer into cups, distributing them to runners, and ensuring a fun, efficient, and safe environment. You’ll also check IDs to ensure compliance with legal drinking age requirements and help maintain cleanliness around the beer station. Friendly, upbeat energy and a focus on keeping the line moving smoothly will make you a key part of the runners' celebratory experience.
  • Medals
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6p-8:00p – 4 volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 8:00a-2:00p – 6 volunteers
    • Description: Hand a medal to each finisher for the 5K, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon.
  • After Party Volunteers
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6p-8:00p – 3 volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 8:00a-4:00p – 3 volunteers
    • Description: Reportt to the Entertainment Director and assist in in any task needed to help the after party run seamlessly.

 

ON COURSE POSITIONS:

  • Zone Director
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6:00p-9:00p – 3 pre-approved volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 6:00p-1:00p – 13 pre-approved volunteers
    • Description: Oversee a designated 1-2 mile segment of the marathon course, ensuring the safety and well-being of runners throughout the race. Your responsibilities include managing volunteers, directing runners along the correct path, addressing any safety concerns, and providing support in case of emergencies. You'll work closely with race organizers to maintain a smooth and safe race experience for all participants. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential to coordinate effectively with volunteers and race officials.
  • Water Stations
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6:00p-9:00p – 1 water station with 10 volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 6:00p-1:00p – 13 water stations with 10 volunteers each.
    • Description: Hand out water, hydration, other items along the course. Pour water into cups and assisting runners in getting water cups when passing by.  Groups may also brand/theme their stations!! Ideal for sports teams, nonprofit groups, church groups, corporate groups!  Please direct any questions to the Volunteer Coordinator. (13 water stations- groups of 10)
  • Split Points
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6:00p-8:30p – 2 volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 6:00a-1:00p – 12 volunteers
    • Description: Direct participants at any point at which courses diverge. The goal of this group is to ensure that all participants stay on the correct course.
  • Course Monitors
    • Shift & Volunteers:
      • Fri 9/5 @ 6:00p-8:00p – 4 volunteers
      • Sat 9/6 @ 6:00a-1:00p – 8 volunteers
    • Description: Assigned at various intersections to point participants in the right direction during their race.
